What is Dosa?

An authentic Dosa is a savory crepe made from fermented batter of rice and urad dal (white lentil). It originates from the South of India but can be found in almost every part of the country.

The simple, deliciousness of the dosa has made this staple South Indian dish very popular across the world. It could be a distant relative of the French crepe.

Dosa can be served plain, or with a filling. It is made on a large cast-iron pan. The edge of the dosa is mostly crispy and it is served in many Udipi style restaurants across India.

While most of us are familiar with the above type of dosa, there are many other types of dosa batter that completely change the look and flavor profile of this dish. At Divine Dosa & Biryani, we wanted to bring other types of authentic and fusion Dosas to Las Vegas.

There are also many varieties of traditional dosa found in South Indian home kitchens. Over time, the traditional dosa has evolved and transformed itself into many new types of dishes.

Creativity and inspiration have led to an even wider variety of Dosas in India. A great example is the Ginni Dosa, a street food found in Mumbai. And yes, we have it on our menu so you can now try from over 30 types of Dosas right here in Las Vegas.

Home of the Epic Four-foot Dosa - right here in las vegas!

We are the first Indian restaurant to offer a four-foot dosa, as part of its regular menu.

This dosa spans the length of your table and is served with chutneys and sambhar – a spicy, tangy lentil curry.

The four-foot dosa was born out of an inside contest for the chefs after they took the culinary trip to India. It was not easy and after a few failed attempts, we came up with a perfectly cooked four-foot dosa. The challenge was not only making the dosa but also bringing it to the table in one-piece so it was a team effort between the chefs and the servers. We had a lot of fun with it and we know you will too when you try it.

What do you typically eat authentic Dosas with?

Sambhar – The main accompaniment of a Dosa is Sambhar, a spicy, tangy, lentil curry. It is also a dish that can be eaten by itself as a soup or over steamed basmati rice. Dosa is dipped into this delicious soupy curry/ stew, and ingredients like fenugreek seeds, mustard seeds, and most importantly, curry leaves provide depth and texture to Sambhar. These are staple ingredients used in South Indian food.

Coconut Chutney – A nutty, delicious and healthy sauce, coconut chutney is tempered with mustard seeds and curry leaves. Again, Dosas are dipped into it for that perfectly balanced bite.

At Divine Dosa & Biryani, you will also find other traditional, authentic chutneys/sauces on your plate along with gun powder, which is special ground spice mix.

Our Concept – Authentic Dosas and more in Las Vegas

Husband-wife duo Bindi and Kris Parikh brought their passion to life by taking their chef on a Certified Indian Culinary Tour to bring back authentic, certified Indian recipes to Divine Dosa and Biryani.

Divine Dosa and Biryani was built from a passion for authentic, certified Indian cuisine with a focus on South Indian food, particularly originating from the city of Hyderabad in India.

Throughout this six-day intense culinary food tour and training program, they discovered local ingredients and spices and brought back not only a collection of recipes but also studied the use of local ingredients as well as the traditional methods of making the perfect fermented batter and sambhar masala. They came back with inspiration and a Certified Indian badge.

Not Just Dosas

Besides over 30 varieties of Dosas, we also offer Biryani, Curries, Kebabs and Indo Chinese fusion food.

Though we have been around since 2008; (with concepts like Mint Indian Bistro and Rotifix) we are just starting to explore the rich and broad diversity of Indian cooking, particularly South Indian food.
